ANNOTATED BIBLIOGRAPHY

PRIMARY:

1) The first source I used was a document that represented the civil right act of 1964.  By using this source I was able to understand that this document was to bring individuals together as one nation since they were segregated.   This resource was useful to my project because without this document being signed things in America would not be what it is today.

  2) The 2nd source I used was an image of president Johnson signing the civil rights law of 1964. By using this source I was able to understand that he want to being people together as one nation since individuals had mixed reactions to the law being signed.  This resource is useful to my project because Johnson was in charged of making the changes of bringing equality.

The third source i used was a video of the civil rights by using this source i was able to to understand that African Americans had to fight to gain equality. This source is useful to me because it made me realize that you have to fight for what you want and not give up on hopes and dreams

4) The fourth source I used was an image of Martin Luther King Jr.  By using this source I was able to understand that Martin Luther King Jr. and President Johnson was both bringing equality to African Americans and white people together.   This source is useful to me because they were both leaders and wanting the same thing for their ethnicity groups, which was to gather them together as one.

The fifth source I used was an MLK speech. By using this source it teaches me the struggles of how hard African Americans had to work for their equality.   This source was useful because a lot of the individuals had to work hard for what they wanted which was gaining the equality. Having this speech was a motivation for the African Americans to get this equality

  The sixth source I used is an Plessy v. Ferguson court case. By using this source it teaches me


this was a legal system that served to abolish slavery.  This source is useful because this is another method to gain equality.

The seven source I used was a congress link. org. By using this Source it teaches me about how the rules are broken into 5 titles down to gain equality for people. This source is useful because without these rules There would be no equality.

Title I

Barred unequal application of voter regismtration requirements, but did not abolish literacy tests sometimes used to disqualify African Americans and poor white voters.

Title II

Outlawed discrimination in hotels, motels, restaurants, theaters, and all other public accommodations engaged in interstate commerce; exempted private clubs without defining "private," thereby allowing a loophole.

Title III

Encouraged the desegregation of public schools and authorized the U. S. Attorney General to file suits to force desegregation, but did not authorize busing as a means to overcome segregation based on residence.

Title IV

Authorized but did not require withdrawal of federal funds from programs which practiced discrimination.

Title V

Outlawed discrimination in employment in any business exceeding twenty five people and creates an Equal Employment Opportunities Commission to review complaints, although it lacked meaningful enforcement powers.
